  • I burned my eyelids.

I've been using those microwavable eye compresses from Thermalon and one day I was really frustrated by my Dry Eye I microwaved it and put it straight on without letting it cool for a couple of seconds. I just hoped that the extra heat would heal me or something. I've done it about twice and I notice the right side of my right eye and the left side of my left eye is dark. It looks like the color when you have purple bags on your eyes. Will this go away?

Hi, yes I'm certain it will go away within a few weeks, I've done this before too. I understand your frustration & motivation to use higher temperatures but it is better to use moderate heat for a longer period of time - keeping it as constant as possible.

Thanks. My dry eye isn't getting any better and within the 6 months I had it it's only getting worse. It's way worse than what I started with. I can actually see my eyes are red, before I didn't see any red but it was dry.

Hey, so do I stop doing eye compresses? After I do the compress I can see my lids and around the eye are red and then after, they are back to being dark. The lids themselves and the area around isn't as dark as the sides I mentioned though. Will they get better if I continue eye compresses or do I take a break from them?

Hey. If you have burnt your eyelid skin (it should be obvious from the distinct color change and being tender to touch) I think you should wait until that heals before resuming the your warm compresses. It's normal for your eyes and the surrounding skin to be redder than usual during and for a short period of time after applying heat as blood vessels dilate. If you have obstructive MGD and your doctor has recommended warm compresses I don't think you should stop them but make sure that they're not too hot and perhaps experiment with different frequencies of doing them. Hope you improve soon

It doesn't hurt at all when I touch the burnt spots, they feel like normal when I touch them but they are dark.

If it's purple like a bruise, it might be some of the tiny blood vessels in your skin burst. Don't worry it's not serious, it is just like a bruise anywhere. Eventually your body absorbs the blood and it goes away, just like any bruise.

I burned my lids again! I don't know how it happened. I started making the compresses warmer now. Not once was it even too hot. I just did compress much more repeatedly now. It was helping A LOT. Now I can't do them anymore because of this burn. I made a picture of what it looks like.

Under my lower lid above the cheek it's a little red with nasty white bumps. Is this a burn? Is it serious? How long will it take to heal so I can start doing compresses again? Can I still do towel compresses because of the moisture? Also what should I put on it? My dad told me to put vasaline(strong lotion) on it so I tried that. Hopefully it works.

Also want to point out my previous burn that was black on my left and right sides, they're still there I look like a freak now. My face is all bruised and beat. My eyes are all red. I think the compresses is making my eye area darker and bruised now. I even looked at myself in the mirror and gagged a little from my burn scar. It looks absolutely disgusting. I don't even want to go out in public now.

No, it is probably not serious, but no one can really answer these questions for you except a doctor... probably a real doc and not an ophthalmologist.

Now would probably be a good time to go get it checked out.

I went to the doctor 2 days ago but she barely knew what I was talking about so she scheduled me an appointment with an ophthalmologist on wednesday.

I feel like I have kinda burned mine before. The skin around the eye is VERY thin, so any heat isn't that great for it..but with MGD we have to use it. I know u are worried but I think it will clear up. I would stop the heat completely until it does.

Is yours getting better? How long is it going to take? I really need to do my compresses, my eyes are feeling way worse again without them.

Ok I think the bumps are blisters.

Please go see another doctor just in case and have it seen to if the other wasnt much help. Skin on the face is thinner compared to the body and we wouldnt want you to end up with scarring or an infection.

Absolutely do this. If and only if the dr. says it's OK to start compresses again, I recommend a product for you called Kao Megurhythm Steam Hot Eye Mask, available on Amazon. These are air-activated, you don't put them in a microwave so you can't overheat them. They heat up by themselves to 40 degrees centigrade. Just take them out of the wrapper and put them on. They are an expensive option but maybe worth it in your case. They also have the added advantage of not putting any pressure on your eyes. Good luck.

Would it be fine to show my Opthamologist since I'm going there later this week? I really don't want this to scar. I also notice that it is swelling.
