  • Shire contacting me?

Hi, all I'm very weary about this... I've contacted a few companies before asking about dry eye products and when they will be on the market aka lacritin and ml-7... Now, for some reason Shire an American company has messaged me on an email directly to me. I haven't sent an email to them (I'm sure of it but I do have short term memory but I don't remember it...), Now on the email it says I have a very confidential deal to share with you.
    Regards,
    Mr. Liu Jun
Shire plc, the ultimate parent of the Shire Group of companies, is registered in Jersey No. 99854
Can someone please enlighten me as to why they maybe contacting me directly? My problem is mild mgd, with allergies. I got the email today, and I am very aware that this maybe dodgy but I looked up the first bit, shire plc and thought well that's strange why would they be contacting me? Please help as I do not know what to reply to this... and I am in the uk and very confused haha. Any help or advice would be appreciated, thank you.

Maybe they want you to be in a trial to get the drug approved in the UK? If I were you I would email them back but don't give out any personal info until you are sure they are legit.

It sounds dodgy. Do you have an email display that lets you check the address it came from rather than just showing a name (e.g. if it's company@gmail it probably is a scam). If it was a study or something similar they would be more likely to contact people through medical providers so they can get a record of treatment.

I was planning to do that BMR, or maybe something like that. I was shocked at why they are directly contacting me. Keely- I will check that, I am very aware about scams and I was worried that this sounds like one. I will email them. I will check this too I'm not sure about the email.

I can't check the email but for some reason it is their name, @ shire.com, I will ask why they contacted me it seems like it's from gmail which I hardly use myself.

Well, they got back to me, I told my mum as well, just deleted it because they were on about a large amount of money and someone who died and I didn't know them and they asked for specific details which I never gave. Also, taking money off someone I do not know. Just deleted the email, they left their phone number and such. Why would their email be under shire??? As I got back to them the email address changed.... Really confused about this. Why would someone like this contact me out of the blue???

Weird that the email address changed. The from and reply to email address could have been faked or forged.

Sounds like it was a scammer. They don't actually have a shire email, they just make it look like it in your browser by faking it. There's often a reply-to set in the code that sends your email reply to their actual address: the gmail one.

A shame. It would have been nice if it had been someone genuinely helpful.

BMR- that's what I thought when I read the other email and noticed the email address changed. To be fair, I'm not exactly old either, 19 so they probably thought I'm stupid enough to fall for it. Ironic. Keely- Yeah, I was excited and all, oh well. As ive said to BMR, they probably think I'm stupid enough to fall for it, it's good I I know what to do on computers. It is pretty sad, I thought you know maybe shire wanna try it over in the uk? I'd be a guinea pig if it helped. I'm still wondering how on earth did they manage to get my gmail to my Hotmail. Sad to think it was maybe shire, oh well. Thanks for the advice from both of you, it helped.
