Sorry to say, it does not look like Lyrica will be the answer for my severe pain. Works really well for pain relief, but I have experienced bad side effects and have had to quit taking it. The first thing I noticed was swelling in my hands and fingers and weight gain (even though I was dieting). Then I started getting pain and loss of function (nerve function I think) in my lower arms and hands. I have been off of it at least 3 weeks now and still not back to normal, although much better. I was only taking 1 75 mg capsule in the afternoon. Now back to being misrerable and in pain every evening after I remove sclerals. Oh well, at least my arms and hands are better. Any ideas out there?

Hi roe,
Have you tried metrogel for your rosacea? That works really well. I've known several people who used it for a couple of weeks and completely cleared their rosacea.
Also I noticed lyrica is a Pain med linked with diabetes. Not sure what your condition is but why were you taking lyrica in the first place? For corneal lesions, the solcoseryl gel has been documented to be the most effective. I used this for my dry eye problem and it nicely healed my sclera.

Hi Roe,
did you take the Metrogel for a long time? How many times did you use it? Also there is 100% Aloe Vera gel which people have found quite helpful as well. Also this is great stuff as well- it is colloidal silver gel and many people have found it eradiates rosacea:

Roe72 ~ hope you don't mind me asking, what does your rosacea look like?
In my opinion, rosacea is really a parasitic skin infection derivative of a variety of sources. The parasites lay eggs under your skin which results in cysts and papules. IPL is probably helpful because it kills the parasites by penetrating into the deeper layers of the skin.
Metrogel is effective because it kills the parasites, however the patient has to lay it on thick and let it dry twice a day. Ive seen people with both rosacea and cystic acne use metrogel and cure them of their condition within a couple of weeks. I could see if someone used metrogel sparingly, then it probably could aggravate the condition. Colloidal silver gel also kills the parasites, viruses and fungi, similar to the metrogel although not as effective.

Also I'd you have rosacea or cystic acne, you should avoid eating raw seafood at any costs. That includes oysters, sushi, sashimi, cerviche etc as all seafood carries parasites and in the US, there are no laws regarding freezing the seafood before serving to kill the live parasites as there is in Japan and Scandinavia.

Well. The rosacea on my face is under good control thanks to IPL. However, it is the ocular rosacea that is killing me! Nothing has worked for that so far. Not sure about parasite theory. Are u talking about Demodex? Also, there is the bacterial overgrowth theory. Sadly, no cure that I am aware of. I am on 100 mg Minocycline, Restasis, Lotamax, theraTears fish oil, sea buck thorn oil and I still have inflammation!

Hi Roe,
Those are a lot of drugs! Lotemax is a steroid and will only make your eyes worse with rebounding redness! Although long term use of steroidal drops cause glaucoma, so if I were you, I would stop using it altogether.
Apparently some people produce protein that interacts with Demodex through bacteria that causes the rosacea. There has been a strong link between the two but I think the parasites become effective when there are other conditions present- possibly a lack of the body's defense system to fight them during illness or via metal/ mercury poisoning. I avoid taking fish oil, because most fish oil contains mercury- so you should always buy supplements that say "mercury free fish oil".
Internally parasites proliferate in your system via yeast overgrowth, so if you are on a steady diet of anti-biotics, you might also have an underlying candida problem which is aggravating your eye condition. These are just my thoughts- so you should take it with a grain of salt, however, I think perhaps these cocktail of medications you are taking is what is causing your persistent red eye despite that your skin problem is under control.
Something to think about

Hi, Logan. Can you post up all the references for your medical information? It's a big help. I'm especially interested in parasites and symbiots and rosacea. I think any overgrowth is secondary to immune dysfunction or dysbiosis. Thanks
Sure no problem.

"Pharmaceutical companies also think there's something to the idea. Galderma, the company that makes Metrogel, a topical antibiotic often prescribed to treat rosacea, is reportedly testing a product that targets Demodex mites."

"Demodicosis caused by infestation with Demodex folliculorum hominis is a parasitic acariasis disease which may affect nasal skin. Acne rosacea with demodicosis must be distinguished from nasal furunculi which require antiinflammatory, hyposensitizing treatment. If the latter fails, it is acna rosacea with demodicosis that must be suspected. "

"It is therefore possible that also other proteases, even from microbial or parasite origin, have a role in rosacea by forming alternate angiogenic and proinflammatory cathelicidin peptides. Further, the regulation of protease activity, in particular KLK-5 activity, might have a role in rosacea. "
4. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23171449
"D. folliculorum density was 5.7 times higher in rosacea patients than in healthy volunteers...In conclusion, D. folliculorum density is highly increased in patients with rosacea, irrespective of rosacea subtype. There appears to be an inverse relationship between D. folliculorum density and inflammation markers in the skin of rosacea patients, with clear differences between rosacea subtypes."
FYI: D. folliculorum is Demodex folliculorum, or presence of Demodex mites

Thanks for all the info Loganly. I am aware of the side effects of the steroid drops, however, the last time I was in to corneal MD he said my ocular rosacea was "horrible" and the Lotamax got increased from 1 x a day to 3 times and the Minocycline got increased to 100mg from 50. Believe me I don't want to take all these meds but I am worse without them. Forgot to say I have scleral lens which have really helped. The hell begins when I have to take them out I the evenings. I really don't think there is any help for me at this point.

Roe, I noticed your eyes got worse with allergy to hair gel - might there be other allergies? We have done better without wheat and sugar too. Did you have a try with that? Is there any chance of nutrient deficiencies? Finding those has helped some people, as Logan found hers.Paediatric ocular rosacea ~ primum non nocere
