The lid margins look just like mine. I use mainly ocusoft plus wipes, but cliradex works well too. The pics are not gross at all..

What do you use for cleaning? Your skin doesn't look rosacea like from the pics ...

Yes faith, its not rosacea but I cant find the english name. In french we have "rosacée" for rosacea and "couperose", and thats what I have on my cheeks... I'll post pics tomorrow! I use Ilast Care to clean the lids, and saline for the lid margins... Today my eyes were sticky/watery and very itchy it was horrible

If your eyes are that itchy... I would say allergy?! Have you tried steroids or prescription allergy drops?

Yes Faith, ive stopped one week ago after using antihistamine drops for 3 weeks. No improvement... Maybe I should have taken oral meds I dont know.

For the first time my eyes were totally stuck this morning. I had to go to the bathroom with my eyes shut and use cold compresses to open them... What is happening???

Just had an appointment with my dermatologist today. She took a look at my eyes and lids and told me she couldn't see anything. She also searched for any sign of demodex in my lashes but couldn't find anything... And then looked at my lid margins and told me they look normal with no sign of inflammation.
She put me on doxy for 1 month.

I'm lost. Is it possible all the diagnoses I get are wrong ? Maybe I only have aqueous deficiency I don't know. Im afraid to have to much hopes in my appointment with Dr Doan, as I read in Nicolas's post the doc took only 3 minutes for him. I have an appointment with another opht. next week we'll see...

But I'm exhausted. I dont know what I have, and if I say it hurts, believe me I'm serious. I am tattooeed on my chest and arms, I have a strong resistance to pain (I fall asleep when I'm being tattooed!), so when I say it hurts I'm really serious...

                    • Ok, I spent two days thinking about the beginning of my dry eyes in september. I remembered I had a KTP laser intervention for the rosacea on my cheeks, so I checked my agenda to find the date : it was the 2nd of september. Then I searched for the first appointment I made with an ophtalmologist for my dry eyes, but couldn't find the date, so I went to the pharmacy and asked for it : it was the 5th of september.

                      Coincidence?? I don't think so..............

                      • Dear Dominorose,

I had the terrible itching and my friend had the awful looking eyelids (where you wear eye shadow). Both of us killed it. When you google Blepharitis it says it is a Staphylococcus infection.
I used the antibacterial hand wipes with Benzethonium Chloride in them and my friend used a facial scrub with Benzethonium Chloride in it. These ingredients are known as Quats and they kill Staphylococcus.
There are people who are allergic to shampoos, detergents, hand wipes, fabric softeners and spermicidal jellies that cannot use these. They also have lanolin in them. some are allergic to that.
People are using them and killing it if they are not allergic.

Hope this information helps you and please look up this information yourself.

                        Wish you relief soon.

                        • Dominorose, how did they cover your eyes while you had KTP laser treatment on the cheeks?

                          • Thanks Lynda but I dont have a bleph. I saw an opht today and she confirmed : MGD induced by ocular rosacea... I dont know where to start.

Littlemermaid : as far as I remember yes I was wearing small UV glasses... So that's nearly impossible for the laser to be the culprit isn't it?

                            • Domino,
I have ocular Rosacea and MGD. Diet is really important for me. It isn't very hard, but you need to know your trigger foods. Keep your carb and sugar intake low. (Carb count below 30g per day.) Eat lots of fresh veggies and plenty of protein. (Chicken and turkey are less inflammatory than red meat.) I stay away from most fruit because of the sugar content. Some people say not to use warm compresses when you have ocular Rosacea, but the warm heat helps bring my inflammation down, and also opens the oil glands. Your eyes don't look too bad. I think part of my redness is from dry eye, and not Rosacea alone. Best of luck to you. You are going to be OK. Just stay on top of things. I know facial Rosacea can go into remission, and I keep hoping my ocular Rosacea will too. As long as the Rosacea is active, it keeps the oil glands unhappy. Try working on the food component for awhile. My friend Kate sent a log so I can enter my foods daily and comment on the impact. It has been very helpful.

                              • Would a Dermatologist have the magnification to see demodex? No Dermatologist we've ever seen has been interested or knowledgeable, only Ophthalmologists.

Sound gross, but when my d notices her eyelashes and eyebrow hairs falling out again, she uses organic tea tree shampoo diluted in warm water 1:50 as an eyelid margin scrub for 4 wks, then tapers down to maybe once a week. We hot wash bedding and towels.

TTO is toxic and it is easy to get suddenly very sensitive to it if it's overused. She will use TTO Body Shop face products and body soap sometimes but can't use them regularly. Your type of rosacea might be more chemical sensitivity to bathroom and face products, and sensitivity to the sun. We have Cliradex but it stung.

It's worth using a normal sensitive anti-dandruff shampoo on your hair sometimes to see if that helps (Malassezia).

What eye cleaners are you using now with your warm compress? I think the main issue is to get your meibomian glands good again. We've managed that a few times on 6 days of Azyter, but MGD comes back without careful maintenance.

I know you've got to be careful with diet and nutrition, so you would have to eat plenty pulses and vegetables. My d can't eat gluten or sugar without her skin flaring up red, so she eats rice, potato and gluten-free pasta etc. There's plenty wheat-free cuisine in the world so it's been nice improving our repertoire. But as everyone says, the triggers are individual.

She wears light sunblock every day or she flares up. It's been important to find gentle face cleansers with minimum chemical ingredients (the Simple range has been good), and most important to find a sympathetic moisturiser and sunblock to 'support the dermal matrix' as the Derms say. This seems to calm inflammation on the face. Beeswax products seem to do least damage but it's unfortunate when they add chemical perfumes which she reacts to.

Do you find your face is red after the shower? When you had IPL, what was it that bothered you about the redness?
