I'm debating whether or not to get referred to a private eye hospital in my area. Any advice on whether they're better in general? The NHS hospitals have a ridiculous waiting list and so far I've just got the, "do warm compresses and use these drops" response.

Hope you're keeping well. Sorry not replied on other threads. I was meant to wish you good luck on your travels, I'm thinking of embarking on a new adventure myself but this dry eye business makes me feel so uneasy about it.
I found this whilst I was researching conjunctival hyperemia, it talks about morning eye congestion, http://www.revophth.com/content/d/th.../1205/c/22716/
My eyes are always red in mornings and I'm thinking now that I know I had mgd that maybe it's the toxic oil seeping in to my eye in night, who knows though, it's such a mystery.
Take care

QUOTE=DryLondoner;92749]I'm bumping this up.
I am walking up and finding my eyes are redder than ever.
It shouldn't bother me, but it really really does. Right now I'm using systane ultra at night and a mask. I tried Satan wrap but irratated the skin around my eyes. Any advice?
Hi Cathy, thank you for the good wishes. I am OK, I've always travelled so it's frustrating as this is my first trip with dry eye and I do feel constraints on what I can do. The humidity does help, but they do live their AC here, which is a bummer.
Thanks for the link. I'm going to see if I can get someone to do a swab of my tears out here. I'm feed up with treating something I'm not 100% sure on. I thought I was AD but that doesn't seem to make sense with my eyes getting much more red at night!
How are you?

Hi Dl, that's great if you're used to travelling, I can imagine it's frustrating though. I'm on holiday at the moment and I daren't take my sunglasses off even in the shade, scared of my pinguecula growing bigger althought I am convinced that wasn't what caused them.
It is so frustrating when you don't know what it is that's causing it, that's how I've felty since July last year and fig having mgd diagnosis is to be honest a relief, my gp was so unsupportive through all this and completely dismissed the discomfort I was in.
I thought I was only aqueous deficient too, that's what oph I saw in May said, he said my right eye being worse was due to less year production. It's really strange at night I wake up and it's like I have little stones under the rim of my eyelids and I'm guessing from what I've read that it's the bacteria not being washed away in night, I found this which was quite interesting http://www.revophth.com/content/d/th.../1217/c/22917/ how do your eyes feel in the night? I sat up in bed for a bit last night after read this and did some blinking as apparently that helps gets your eyes secreting the good stuff again, I'm wondering whether sleeping with more pillows could help. Sorry to ramble, sometimes it's nice just to get out everything that's spinning round in my head.
I'm ok thanks aside from the eyes, although they are a lot better due to doxycycline and only been on it a week. I'm starting a new job next month and moving away from home for first time too so I'd like to have his problem more under control, it's scary enough moving out!
Hope you're having a good time and your eyes aren't effecting things too much for you.
Take care

Hi DryLondoner, have you tried a product called VitA-POS? Its a very good preservative free eye gel that I used at night and now I wake up with no redness at all. You can get it for about Ł5 without a prescription (http://www.boots.com/en/Vita-Pos-Eye...-A-5g_1482418/). Its supposed to last about 8 hours and it is a thick gel but to me it feels great not waking up with really red, sore and watery eyes.

Cathy, thanks for sharing. I too wake up feeling like something (grit/sand) is under my eyelids. After about 4 blinks they feel better, just slightly itchy and very red.
I've been so bad with diet and looking after my eyes out here. I'm having to attend lots of social functions connected to my job, these are all in highly air conditioned places, which sucks!!
I'm wondering if doxycyline would help me? Everyone had always said my glands look fine, but I'm wondering about bacteria. I used to get lots of mucus, however that's decreased significantly over the past two weeks.... I'm hoping this is progress!
At this point I'm scared to change/try anything new, I feel like everything I've done has just made matters worse. My eyes never use to sting and burn so badly, after steroids they feel so much worse.
Hope you keep making progress!!

I am a post-lasik too.
I also have this redness morning. There are days that lasts 15 minutes, there are days that lasts 03/04 hours. Once in a while along comes the pain and photophobia.
What helped me was very clean the eyes with saline just before sleep and after waking. The eyes are a little red because of the serum, but improve soon after. After I started doing this a little better and never had photophobia.
I read the post about Vitapo yesterday and went to try. Post lasik eyes are really SUPER SENSITIVE, ehehehhe
Let me ask you. How long are you using steroids? The long use of them can make your eyes more sensitive and also cause these sensations you are reporting, I've been there.
Have you tried using the scleral lenses? Seem to be a great tool for post-lasik. I searched here in the forum and saw that many people who used stopped posting (or died or improved). Sorry if already asked before, my memory is not so good lately.

I'm testing my speedo swimming goggles.
In the morning they are full of water droplets on the inside.
Helped me a bit with pain.
An interesting fact here is that when you wake up and immediately look in the mirror, my eyes are relatively white. After 1 or 2 minutes they become red again. And gradually are becoming whiter again.
I think like my mouth, my eyes wake up very dry.
Anyone have any clue as to what to use in the morning?

Hi DryEyeLondoner
Are your reds still quite red in the morning times? I am curious.
I am going through a period of redness in the morning.
What I'd love to know is why it occurs. Like, if the eye is closed in one position how can that eye become so red. Especially if drops are added prior to sleep. I'd love to know from a biological perspective what is happening here - I've no idea.
