Good eye day

Thought I would celebrate a little bit - we have family in town working on house projects and I've been painting outside and prepared dinner for my 7 last night -- and I had a pretty darn okay day!! AND my dry eye buddy sent me a Dianat St. Lucy charm -- so I feel especially blessed now!!

Like I've said before -- if i can kick the dryness pain -- i can deal with the other vision issues. Picking my battles -- and dry eye is enemy number one!!

Well, after having a pretty good weekend last weekend. I've been struggling emotionally this weekend. It's HOT here and everything is making me snap. Last night we were playing games at a friend's house and there was a fan above the table blowing like crazy and hurting my eyes -- I know I should have asked to turn it down or off -- but I didn't. One of my friends in the room was another lasik person even -- but I still feel that ridiculous shame and reluctance to talk about all the troubles that I have been having.

I just sat on the edge of the bed and said to my boyfriend with tears in my eyes....I just want it go away.

Luckily today it's really humid -- hopefully my eyes feel better again.

Going into hospital

My eyes are going well and thank goodness. I am going into hospital on Monday to have a hysterectomy so that will put them to the test. Thanks for all the advice here. It is rainy and very damp here in NZ so I won't mind being out of action now and should have my warrant of fitness by Christmas!!!

I hope your surgery went well and your recovering good. I had a tubal ligation on the 21st of July long story. I may in time have to have a hysterectomy as I have this thing called Adneomiosis, don't know if I spelled that correctly but it's been causing me a lot of trouble and I am only 32 years old, quite scary. I would just like to say God bless to you and to everyone, my eyes are still the same, extremely dry and the mucus strings never go away Besides that everything is going good, hope you recover well. Just as a FYI, ladies.........I took HRT for years (before and after lasik-and Sjogrens). I had to stop cold turkey last year and it didn't make one bit of difference "eye-wise." (Estrogen and progesterone.) Lucy

Thanks for the info on the HRT, I won't be having to take any HRT until I hit menopause, but if I have to have this hysterectomy earlier then I will I am not sure what the doctors can give me if I am allergic to estrogen and progesterone pills? It's just so weird, I had been on birth control since I was a teenager but for the past 5 years I had been having so much trouble and I don't see how I can become allergic to estrogen when I already produce it? But oh well I don't have to worry about that now, have a wonderful Labor Day weekend. Luv D

Recuperating from op

Hi all
Thanks so much for all your kind thoughts. The op and anaesthetic went well and the nurses did have a microwave to warm up my rice baggie etc (with warnings not to put in wheat bags etc on it!!!!) I did it myself after a few days. They were very good about my dry eye problem. I was able to put in my gel just before the op and my drops were right with me when I came to.
However I have had a few hiccups and came home with a catheter in - went back for the day yesterday and had to have it back in again - go back in a week (It takes an hour and a quarter to get to the hospital) and same tests again so it is a bit scary!!! I hurt to sit down but now have a ring cushion and I have found a great UK hysterectomy website where I am now an August Orchid (we all had similar op in August!!) I still think DEZ is the best site - It is run so well and so well organised!!!
A hysterectomy is a major - One has to get that same fighting spirit that you need with dry eye - and you hope and pray that you do end up a new woman after all!!!
Back to the sofa!

It's been a while since I've posted, but I thought I drop back in and say "Hi" to everyone.

I've been doing well. I recently got married in August and moved from Omaha, NE to the Chicago area. Things are going well for me. My dry eye is very manageable, and I'm currently in the process of studying for the GRE and applying to graduate schools for school psychology.

Anyway, I hope you are all doing well.

Congratulations on your marriage.

You're in a great location to be applying to graduate schools-- lots of great universities in and around Chicago. I wish you luck on the GRE and the application process. I just love Chicago and would love to live there. I manage to visit it two or three times a year, being about six-seven hours from it.

I have to read a lot for my job, and I have dry eyes and RCE's, and it can be done. Just keep taking good care of yourself and your eyes. I'm sure that you can do it!

Best of luck with school. It's amazing that you are able to handle heavy studying while managing severe dry eye.

I just joined the board. I woke up middle of night ad felt the moisture and tears in my eyes. I have had so little eposides like this before I was elated. I went back to sleepo with smile in my face. It was drier this morning. I have some allergy and may have been reflex tears but was sure felt good. I can finally remeber what it was like few years earlier when everything was normal.
