      Hello redandsensitive,
      a few thoughts from me:

      1. As you have found for yourself, most normal eye doctors know little about dry eye. That's why it is of utmost importance to find an expert. I went to five (!) different eye "doctors" in my city (Germany) before I gave up on these people and made the effort to travel half across the country to see a specialist.

It was worth it. Coming into his office, I knew he would be different. He had the latest state-of-the-art diagnostic tools, had information sheets laying in his practice about dry eye studies he conducted and examined me for almost one hour. For the first time I got a precise diagnosis and a real treatment plan. My ocular discomfort is now only half of what it used to be it seems like my eyes are improving further. I have just sent him an e-mail asking him if he knows a dry eye specialist in Norway or Scandinavia. I will inform you as soon as I have a response from him.

      2. Even with the best dry eye expert, it usually takes several weeks and even months until you see improvement. That is frustrating, I know, but it is worth to be patient. For example, it takes 3-6 months to see the full benefit of omega 3 supplements.

      3. Another important point I want to raise here is that independent of your eyes, your state of happiness or unhappiness is strongly influenced by your attitude toward yourself, other people and life in general. So far, I have found it very useful to work on developing certain mental qualities, especially gratitude and optimism. There is a growing body of research that shows that these qualities have a positive impact on your health and happiness as well as on your abliity to deal with difficult and painful situations.

For example, in the morning, you might close your eyes and whisper to yourself all the things in your life that you are grateful for. At first, you might feel there is nothing to be grateful for, but as you think about it, you will find more and more positive points in your life. For example, that you are young, that you life in a great country, that there are people all over the world who care about you, that medical science is progressing at a fast rate, that you see the sun shining, that you feel the taste of a nice cup of tea etc.

And in the evening, you might close your eyes again and do a meditation on optimism, for example whispering to yourself that "I am optimistic that I will find a Dr. who can help me", "I am optimistic that my eyes feel better again", "I am optimistic that I will become happy again" etc.

So, keep your spirits up. I wish you the very best and will contact you as soon as I have a response from the German dry eye expert.

        Hello redandsensitive,
the dry eye expert I contacted said there are certainly experts in Norway, but he doesn't know any. So you might search (or continue searching) for an expert in Norway. Otherwise, you might think about seeing a specialist in another European country.

          Hi there!

I'm from Norway (redandsensitive knows me), and I've not been able to find a dry eye expert here. I had to go all the way to Paris to find one. I know a very good eye doctor in Bergen, but unfortunately he's not specialized in dry eyes.

            Hi!

Thank you for your time and effort to write to me

I have taking your tips to my head, and will try better to think like that! But it's hard without medication (antidepressent).

The nearest dry eye doctor is in England, maybe I can afford that in a year or two

I had an appointment with an normal eye doctor yesterday:

            I got a diagnosis:

Posterior blepharitis because of a SKIN DISORDER (rosacea) , I DON'T want rosacea, I don't want a red face, red eyes is enough!!! Damn....

So I got this: fucithalmic eye drops.

How long time does it take before this will work? I don't see a difference yet...

I hope Dr. Latkany can help you. I've felt your depression and desire to end it all. God knows I've been in a living hell over the past 7 months due to doctors screwing up my diagnosis. But I have faith in the Lord Jesus Christ that I will be left well. You can't give up. I'm ashamed that for a while there I also thought about giving up. While I'm scared about my recovery, I just have to believe in all my heart that it will simply take some time to get better. You'll be in my prayers for a healing to come to you. Trust me I know what you feel. Happy New year and may the Lord Jesus Christ heal you of your affliction.

I just joined this forum but thought I would join into this conversation after reading your story. Just want to encourage you a bit. I too have rosacea. Didn't know it till I went and saw dr L, and he pointed it out. Why did the other 2 drs I have seen (for over 3 years) miss it? Because they are simply not as good as he is. Few are. I encourage you to try and make the trip, so that you will be able to get good, solid advice from him. The sooner, the better. Seeing a dr that takes a real interest is vital. Also, I would advise against going to LA for some operation unless you see him first. He is cautious, and will be able to advise you on treatments available. If he doesn't give his seal of approval on something, then don't do it. Too many drs are just out to make money off of people like us. He is not. I have seen him several times, and am impressed.

                                Hi redandsensitive!

I've experienced many of the same problems as you. It is definitely hard to keep a normal lifestyle with red eyes, especially with a full time job.

I currently see an eye doctor in Oslo which may or may not be able to help me. In any case, whereabout in Norway do you reside? We could meet up one day and discuss experiences with someone facing the same issues if you like. Feel free to contact me any time..

                                take care,

                                Øyvind
