    Hi all,

I've never been one for half measures unfortunately.......so I get the rough with the smooth all at once... :-)

So, today wasn't so good. I got pain in my right eye as per usual, but on a good note no stinging.....usually the whole lot comes at once and I'm offline for a while. A round of eye drops and a wee rest from the PC and I was back to normal again. So, overall still much better than normal.

What I did notice was that with the eye pain (the lacrimal defficient eye) also gave me slightly blurred vision as it does without the lens in. I wasn't really expecting that. Also, I thought that the lens would have acted more like a bandage and would have protected the eye from such pain, by locking in some tears behind the lens.I don't really know what actually happens there to tell you the truth.
I've been saying this for years, I'd really like to know what goes on with my right eye to see what causes such dull pain. My eye can get reall dry and not have the pain, then sometimes it does. No doc has answered that question.

Anyways, by the time I drove homefrom work my eyes were well rested so we went shopping......again, as in the first few days it really was a revelation to walk about a supermarket and enjoy the evening without too much thought to my eyes.

On a side-note I was talking to a guy at work. He had his head in his palms at lunchtime....I asked what was wrong and he said he'd had to take one of his contacts out and when he put it back in his eye was gritty and sore. He was contemplating going home as he didn't have his spectacles with him and if he took out his lens he wouldn't see properly.......so, I donated 1 vial of artificials tears and he was ready to rock in 5 minutes, albeit I had to administer the drops for him!
I told him why I took eye drops and he was shocked at DES....he'd never heard of it and did wonder why I was always reaching for my mirror and putting in eye drops myself.

    Ian.

Glad to hear the new contacts are working out for you!

I was wondering if you have ever worn Acuvue Oasys, and if you could compare the two contacts. Thanks a bunch and good luck with the new contacts!

          Hi,

I haven't worn contacts in 15 yrs, so have nothing really to compare, however:-

My sis wears Acuvue lens, but not same as mine. If she closes here eyes for any period of time, or sleeps with her lens in she says her lens stick to the inside of her lids.

And also, a guy at work has recently started wearing same lens as me and he says he's fallen asleep all night with the lens in and his eyes opened fine in the morning. However, he does say that from time to time later in the day his eyes get tired and has to take out the lens.

          Ian.

            15 years wow...
Did you get those lenses in the UK or the States? I wonder are they available in Ireland. I will ask at my next appointment. My Optician did say they were coming available soon but i don't know how soon that is

These lens are available in the UK.

                Thursday Update:-
Today was as yesterday, no stinging in my eyes all day, just my right eye getting a little sore. Overall, and again, better overall for my eyes. I'm back to the optician Monday for my 1-week review.

On a side-note, I went on the hunt for lacrimal gland problems......I reall want to get to the bottom of why my right eye only is affected. After digging and reading reports/studies etc I happened on a few prominent eye docs at the likes of Harvard.......so I popped of a couple of cold emails. You never know! The sudden on-set 3 years ago of my lacrimal gland under-performing just keeps coming back into my head. If it was a machine I was diagnosing I'd say "blockage" every time. How can it be perfect for 40 years then all of a sudden over a 5 minute period be sore and dry and stay that way ever since, and whilst my left eye stays perfect. I keep dreaming that one day some doc will pop me a couple of pills and say "there, it'll clear up in a couple of days". Ahhhhhhh, wish.............:-)

                Ian.

                  Hi all,

I've been wearing my Acuvue Trueye lens's for a week............the free trial is over and I went back this morning to my local optician to get post trial evaluated.

They gave me the go-ahead to continue on with the lens, however did notice that on my right eye (the lacrimal defficient eye) that there as a slight ring line on the bottom half just outside of where the lens lies.
On examination the optician said this is due to the lens not floating like it does and should on my left eye, but rather is more stuck in the one place. She only noted that I should get a 3 monthly check up in the future rather than once per year. Also, I am not to wear the lens "all day and evening" like I have been, better to restrict to working hours only, and take them out when I get home from work.

So, I've gone ahead and ordered a 30-day pack......we'll see how I get on with that.

                  Ian.

                        Hi all,

It takes a couple of days to get the 30-day pack ordered, so I've a couple of days without contacts...............and by eck! am I feeling it!!!!

Although they feel hydrated, today my eyes are stinging and are all red. Ouch!

Thats not a good sign - it could mean your over wearing them.

That is what I was thinking too. It brings back memories... But then again, your Dr. told you to back off that you were doing too many hours with the contacts. So hopefully things will improve!

Ya maybe just try wearing them for occasions - that way you can give your eyes a chance to heal aswell after wearing them

                                Hi all,

Past couple of days have NOT been good.......nothing to do with the contacts, I think I'm just on a bad cycle.....so am not wearing the contacts today......but still my eyes are really red. I wish my workplace had a better air-con system....:-(

Last night I made the mistake of rubbing a really itchy right eye.......and boy did my eye go red! It even seems to loosen the cornea as it was folding up when I closed my eyes. Better today though after a good nights rest.

I've ordered a pair of eye goggles so I reckon that will help me.....they surely do at home, I have a pair of cheapo onion goggles there that work wonders for sitting infront of he PC.

I think I'm past the stage of being fed up with my eyes, I actually laugh about how bad it is sometimes.

                                Ian.
