  • [QUOTE=lelagy;74292]Hi, I live in Sweden and I ordered Triphala Ghrit from here:

    http://www.la-boutique-bio.com/produ...64d0f281832908

I hope it's the right thing. Just started using it this morning. I also started taking Macadamia oil which is rich in omega-7 but cheaper than taking sea buckthorne capsules for example. You can order organic macadamia oil from LCHF-butiken and Bodystore.

    Good luck!

    Thank you for these tips!
I am also on Sea Buchthorne and it is very expensive, especially Membrasin which have highered their price.

What is your experience so far with Triphala?

    • Hi Sunshinelover! I started to use the Triphala yesterday and I must say I got some relief almost immediately. The effect doesn't stay super long but I could really notice a difference. I would really recommend it. The only hassle is that when you order it, it might get stuck in customs, but my package got through. If you order, make sure you order a few bottles since they run out quite fast. They are reasonably cheap. And don't get scared by the smell - the taste is not as bad.

Did you live in Sweden? If you live close to Gothenburg maybe we could order together to get it cheaper. If i continue to think there is an effect I might try to order the herbs in a larger quantity and make my own triphala ghrit.

By the way - do you get any effect from sea buckthorn?

Yes, I live in Stockholm - may be not so close to Göteborg, but I will order some bottles, interesting that you felt relief immedeately. I can't say I have felt anything from the buckthorne. First I tried only this. Now I am alos on Fish oil, curcumin and maca root and will now also start q10 I think (although it was very expensive)!

the one variable that makes my eyes feel better seem only to be humidity and staying away from indoor climates with AC etc (i .e almost any place but home....)
By the way, do you have a diagnose, and have you found any good doctor in Sweden for dry eyes?

        • Hello again, I actually haven't taken the Triphala in quite some time - don't know if I will continue - transport and taste (not that I can't stand the taste, but it just reminds me of my condition) is a problem for me, but I do really think it's worth a try.

I also feel the symptoms are different depending on the surrounding humidity.

I started to think I have corneal neuralgia, which is quite consistent with my symptoms. I started to see a doctor at Mölndals sjukhus in Sweden and she has been great. Unfortunately she also thinks I have corneal neuralgia which is somewhat depressing. I have been put on serum tears (have been using them for two weeks) and got plugs a few days ago. Can't say anything about the effect yet. I also got medication for neuropathic pain. I have been quite lucky I think, considering the stories on this forum about people who have been dismissed by several doctors before meeting someone who knows about their condition and understands their suffering. I think it's a good idea to present some articles about the condition to the treating physician – at least I think it has worked well for me. I also printed a mail correspondence I had with some of the doctors associated with Boston Foundation For Sight and showed to my doctors.

          • Legaly , that's good you found a nice doctor. But what about neuralgia - does that still means you are tear deficient , since you got plugs ?
Have you had it for a long time and how did it start ?
I bought some triphala churna from an ayurvedic masseur when I went there for an ayurvedic massage . I have also found it in the iforma Swedish webshop ! Although haven't taken it many times yet , difficult to keep up with all the supplements .

Nice to know you still better Subashli.

My daily routine is not too much different than yours

                1. Triphala Ghritta - twice a day
                2. Warm compress - twice a day
                3. Fish oil and Flaxseed oil - 2 capsules of each one a day

But I'm not getting better. First month taking Triphala and using Netraritam eye drops I hade a huge improvement. But I got worse in July and It's hard to have a significant and steady improvement so far.

I started taking Ashwagandha to stress ten days ago http://www.ayurvedabay.com/organic-a...-vegicaps.html
Very good medicine. In the very first day I felt great difference in my energy. And, to my surprise, I felt a lot of improvement in my eyes. I don't know if it was because the anti-inflammatory properties of it, or because it made me have a deeper sleep. But right now in the second week taking it, I don't feel that much improvement in my eyes anymore. But for sure it is very good for energy.
Last saturday I walked in the streets in a hot weather, 22% relative humidity, went to supermarket (AC on), and my eyes didn't bother me. I was so happy! But later that day my eyes started bother me, even though I was at home with my humidifier turned on.

But in general, humidity is all that is working for me right now

I worry about stopping Triphala and getting worse than I am.

                • Yep, almost same routine. Try Muro 128 ointment also bakunin.

Drinking a big mug of strong coffee everyday in the morning is also helping a lot. I agree with the research that coffee/caffeine provides some relief to dry eye sufferers. Everyone, try drinking more coffee and see if it helps.

Keep using Triphala Ghrita for some more time. I am sure it will help to some extent.

Ashwagandha is a very good medicine. I used Ashwagandha for stress, insomnia and slight depression couple of years ago. It really helped a lot at that time. Also I felt my vision was sharper and noticed reduced inflammation.

Yes, I'm liking very much Ashwagandha. I'm using it for the same purpposes as yours. Muro 128 is not sold in Brazil . Perhaps there is some similar here. I have an appointment with a cornea expert september 17, I will see.

I'm doing 5 minutes of yoga for the eyes everyday. I don't know if it is good for dry eyes, but I think it is good for the eyes muscles. I'm drinking organic green tea with tulsi everyday (caffeine free). I didn't know caffeine could be good for dry eyes. I don't use to drinke coffee, as I tend to have insomnia.

                    • Sunshinelover: Yes, unfortunately I have dry eyes as well, even if they don't seem to be as bad as many people's on this forum. Don't know if they always go together - I had dry eyes before since my damn lasik but the day I woke up with the pain the eyes were also much dryer (they have become better now though I think). The pain/foreign body sensation was just there one day when I woke up. The day before I had been walking on a road were the air was quite bad - I believe maybe that was what triggered it. Got it a little bit more than two months ago. Right now I hope the condition will go away with treatment, even if it might not be very probable. I'm one a cure of corticosteroids now, but that is also a bit scary because of the side effects.

How about you - did you find any good doctor? Any effect from the triphala churna? I think triphala ghrita and triphala churna are different things? I understand about the supplements :-)

                      • Hi Lelagy,
I have been on vacation one week now so didn't bring the thriphala with me, have too many other supplements, so I started it again i guess. Too soon to tell I guess. I do not know what the difference of ghrita anc churna is, the ayurveda guy said it didn't matter what sort, the triphala is three herbs. But I will order it now from the Swedish site I found. Well, so far I don't think anything has really worked except steriods which I have gotten two times with good results. But it don't last... I think it is gradually getting worse and that I need more and more humidity to feel OK. I was quite OK some days at my vacation, staying outside in the sunshine all the time. Sunshine and heat seem to help, getting to sweat helps (blood circulation?) , getting cold sucks! I could not stand the 3 hour flight in AC, it was awful and eyes hurt like hell.
I went to the dry eye specialist in St Erik and he was very nice, although only recommended more drops and ointments. I however don't take the ointment because it makes it so hard to open the eyes in the morning. Better with gel in fact. I am still planning to see dr B in Paris in december, to get a second opinion since I din't get much of a diagnose. All the doc could come up with was that I had scars from my MKM and LASIK surgeries, but I have had this since 25 years!!!! Did MKM in 87 and LASIK in 96. Never had any problems at all - although I realize they musts have been mildly dry all the time. But htey were so also before LASIK since I could not have contacts. So something more must have happened! Ohterwise, are all people who have had LSIK going to end up with dry eye in due time????
Checked my hormones also, and (of course) nothing wrong there either. I am perfectly healthy, so why can't eyes work? -(
I think bad work environment last winter caused it , but why can't it go away??
After a day at work I am now ready to close my eyes for the rest of the day .... so depressing...

                        • Guys,

I am happy with my routine but just curious. Which drops are you using for mucin layer and/or lipid layer?

I am using Celluvisc only right now; also like Systane Balance. But I am not 100% sure which layers of tear film they treat? Any idea?

These are my favourites. I have used them in the past. I guess I am mentioning most of the drops as my favourites . But most favourite is Celluvisc.

Experts, I would appreciate if you could answer the following:-

                          1. Celluvisc ---- Does it treat Mucin Layer or Lipid Layer or Both ?
                          2. Systane Balance ---- Treats Mucin Layer or Lipid Layer or Both ?
                          3. TheraTears liquid gel ---- Treats Mucin Layer or Lipid Layer or Both ?
                          4. Bausch and Lomb: Soothe Preservative Free ---- Treats Mucin Layer or Lipid Layer or Both?
                          5. Bion Tears ---- Treats Mucin Layer or Lipid Layer or Both?
                          6. Genteal Severe Gel ---- Treats Mucin Layer or Lipid Layer or Both?
                          6. FreshKote ---- Treats Mucin Layer or Lipid Layer or Both?

I want to know if I am buying the right one from next time. Your help is appreciated.

                          Thanks,
                          Subashli

                          • Hi Sunshinelover! I'm sad to hear about your problems.

I'm almost sure churna and ghrita are two different things. Someone else posted a list of ingredients here - churna contains three herbs, ghrita contains many more. So I think you should give the ghrita, (or ghritam - not sure which name is correct) a try. Would you mind giving me the name of the Swedish ayurveda site?

Did you have LASIK on both eyes? Are your eyes equally dry? Do your eyes hurt also when you put drops etc in them?

Maybe your dry eye problem is not necessarily related to LASIK - I mean, since you get help from the steroids, maybe there is some kind of inflammation involved? From what I have learned from this site, there are many different causes for dry eye. One is that the nerves that provide sensation from the cornea are severed, such as during LASIK. Another is because there is inflammation in the openings to the glands that provide the fatty part of the tear film (there are many others reasons of course). Maybe your problem is something related to inflammation? You say heat makes you feel better - maybe it increases the flow from the inflammated, blocked glands? I'm just speculating... Did you ever try hot compresses? http://www.dryeyezone.com/encycloped...ompresses.html

                            • my 6 month update

After a first month of great improvement taking Triphala (and using Netramritam eyedrops), I didn't feel a progress in the second month. And by the end of the third month I got worse (probably due to the dry winter weather), and have kept in that way, with better and worse weeks and days, til last weekend. I thought Triphala was not working anymore but was taking it til complete the six month trial and finish my Triphala stock. It did in last friday.

Last tuesday I had a bad day, wednesday either, and today, thrusday, I had a bad day like I didn't have since I started taking Triphala. Bad like my worse days since the onset of my DES. I can't blame the weather because it is much more humid this week than was in winter and in the last weeks. And I was not in a place with an AC. I was bad the last four months with Triphala, but I think I forgot how bad I was before started taking it. My eyes are white as ever, but I feel them sore, inflammed of its own, unrelated to enviroment issues. When you think you're in a hell on earth, things still can get worse

Of course there is no way i can tell for sure that this set back is due to have stopped Triphala, but I can't relate this horrible set back to anything else.
I have a pack of Triphala Powder, so I drank a first dose of it two hours ago. Let's see what will happen.

The ayurveda doctor in my city is really bad, money wasted. But man, if Triphala is the only thing that helps me, even a little bit, I want to be treated in India!
