I have just received the results from a hair mineral analysis. I will see my naturopath in two weeks to discuss. The results were:

    Low sodium/potassium ratio.
Low magnesium, potassium, iron, sodium, copper, manganese, zinc, chromium and selenium.
Presence of 0.61 aluminium and minimal presence of other toxic metals.
The results indicated exhaustive stress, diminished adrenal glandular activity, imbalance glucose metabolism, impaired protein synthesis, impaired digestion, liver/kidney stress and presence of inflammatory tendency.

My naturopath has just recommended the SIBO diet plan for me alongside the following supplements: cortrex capsules (adrenal gland), b12 - 2000 lozenges (vit b12 and folio acid), bioglycozyme forte capsules (multivitamin), pic mins capsules (trace minerals), hydro zyme tablets (stomach acid), arthred collagen powder, oscap capsules (ca, mg) and arctic cod liver oil.

I am awaiting results of Organix comprehensive urine analysis and my naturopath has recommended thyroid testing on the next visit.

Plan to start my supplement programme next week alongside a specific SIBO diet plan which will mainly involve a breakfast smoothie consisting of 2 egg yolks, 3 scoops of collagen protein powder, coconut oil, berries and one very ripe banana. Other meals will be lean protein and cooked vegetables. Will be avoiding nuts, grains, wheat, dairy (organic ghee ok), alcohol and starch. Some foods can be introduced later on.

    Will update with any progress.

    xx
    Hi Sharon,

Thanks for sharing your results- they are interesting. I also have high aluminium levels on my hair test. As per Dr L Wilson who specialises in hair mineral analysis, if other toxic metals are low on the hair test this indicates a poor eliminator pattern (you are not eliminating/detoxing the metals well), possibly due to under methylation and mineral deficiencies. The body eliminates toxic metals into the hair to get rid of them, so when you start eliminating them better you may notice that the levels of other heavy metals i.e. mercury or lead go up for a while. I am currently eliminating copper (which can be a toxic metal when in high amounts) and my hair test shows this.

Good adrenal and thyroid function is important for detoxification and for energy production. I am also on an adrenal/thyroid glandular.

My Candida is clearing up on this programme (as confirmed by an Organix comprehensive urine analysis) - it has taken a while but it is finely dying off and I haven't had thrush for several months now. All my symptoms are better not just dry eye. I'm still having detoxification symptoms (healing crises) such as thirst and chills but these are a welcome sign of healing. Feel free to message me if you have questions about detox symptoms as I'm quite experienced with them!

Oh I also had parasites and these have been dying off naturally for the past 4 months.

You are on the right track, Sara

I do one coffee enema a day. I believe they have been key to my success as they raise glutathione levels (the master cellular antioxidant) by 700%.
Start slowly with 1 tsp of organic coffee and work up to 1.5 tables per 2 cups of water.

They are amazing if you are having detox symptoms, they clear the toxins from the liver and into the colon and then you eliminate them in the stool.

        Hi Unicorn,

That is a very biased study of only 15 nutritionists. I'm not sure where they studied, but on my course with the CNM the need to recognise ''red flags'' is drummed into us and to refer to the GP accordingly. We are also continuously told that we can not advise that clients come off any medication and that if they have cancer we are only able to ''support'' them with nutrition while they are undergoing conventional cancer therapy under the care of an oncologist. We undertake 200 hours of clinical practice and red flags and GP referrals are discussed throughout out clinical experience.

The industry is not regulated, although I think this is going to change, so anyone can call themselves ''nutritionist'' that haven't had the proper training (I.e online distance learning for 6 months). Make sure they are BANT and CNHC registered (only 3 of those in the study were) and have qualified from a reputable college such as CNM, ION or West Minister University. This is a 3 year training programme with extensive clinical practice.

Nutritional therapy is based on functional medicine which is science/evidence based. Our practice is guided by the most latest research on nutrtion and biochemistry, epigeneics, nutrigenomics- all of which conventional medicine ignores because there is more money in drugs to mask symptoms than finding the underlying cause and brining people back to health.

More people die from pharmaceutical drugs than traffic accidents and many many more experience drug side effects:

Here is a response to this article:

        http://blog.hellomagazine.com/thenak...herapists.html

Now I have nearly finished my training at the Institute For Optimum Nutrition and from the beginning it has been drummed into us not to diagnose and always keep in contact with the client’s GP. As Nutritional Therapy is a Complementary Medicine, it seems it will always be under constant scrutiny. However, this is not a problem for someone who is passionate about his or her work and a productive and fair critic will be welcomed.

We are surrounded by an ill-health epidemic, proven to be linked to the modern diet. So how about some reports showing how Nutritional Therapy can benefit the health of an individual and not just slamming it? I’m sure Nutritional Therapy is not the only field that would benefit from a review. I have a friend that went to a Dietician for help with gaining weight and they were informed to eat more desserts and doughnuts – now tell me the logic in this?

I would welcome your comments on this matter as I think it’s an important topic of discussion…

Another route might be to see an Doctor/MD with an interest in functional medicine. Here is a list of fully qualified UK based practitioners https://www.functionalmedicine.org/p...id=117#results

Hopefully more doctors will take this route in the future as I do agree that the body should be viewed as a whole rather than isolated sets of symptoms being treated. I personally have had a bad experience with a nutritionist despite her extensive qualifications. She wasn't interested in seeing me again when I found the supplements she wanted me to purchase through her online for nearly half the price. For this reason I would only see an MD now.

Please be careful with the use of coffee enemas without supervision https://www.sciencebasedmedicine.org...coffee-enemas/

I'm confused. Should I stop taking my prescription medicine, or should I stop driving?

Seriously, though, it's all very well to say you would not suggest to a cancer patient that s/he stopped conventional therapy, but then in the same breath to imply that all prescription medicine is dangerous seems to me to be downright irresponsible.

I researched my naturopath and I trust her experience and felt comfortable with her in person. However, I can't say that I can recommend her or her suggestions as I am very early in the process and have no idea what will happen. I can only try my hardest to stick to what she has advised. My plan is to see if there is any change after 3 months. xx

I am not against medication if it helps, the issue here for myself and lot of people on this site is that medication has not worked so I am just sharing an alternative which has worked for me when nothing else has! And no I would never recommend someone come off medication.

I only posted that link to highlight that medication can have side effects but it is not reported in the news so you don't know about it, I wasn't trying to imply that people shouldn't take it. If it helps, that's great!

                            Hi four chimneys,

You can find registered nutritional therapists/naturopaths here:

                            http://bant.org.uk/bant/jsp/practitionerSearch.faces

I would look for one who specialises in functional medicine, with the letters after their names of ION, CNM or Westminster. Most do skype consultations so if you find one that's not in your area, that is an option. I skyped with mine who lives in london, she is very good, I can give you her name if you like, but she's quite expensive at £60 for 1/2 an hour.

                            Tc Sara

The naturopath I saw is on there and a very questionable local nutritionist. I would recommend people try and get word of mouth recommendations if possible. I'm not saying a lot of them don't have good intentions. Obviously dependending on the severity of digestive problems it may be necessary to see a Dietitian or Gastroenterologist and I hope a naturopath or nutritionist would refer accordingly.
