Im considering getting eyeliner tattooing done on my upper lids only because my eyes get irritated when applying makeup on my lids. I already have lots of tattoos so I know about how it will feel however my question concerns how does this impact bleph (not sure if I have this, no crusting or anything happens to me, just dry eye), MGD or things like that. Will the tattooing impact the glands that are already being affected by MGD? I really would like to get this done since I dont want to worry about infection, irritation from the chemicals in makeup but I want to be realistic about the long term effects. Anyone here had it done and what are the good/bad aspects of it?

I hope you get some answers jennifermd, because I would also like to have this done. I've read online that eyelid tattooing isn't a good idea if you have eye problems, but would so like to have this done. I just read this online: "Still popular, micropigmentation of the eyelid margin (tattooed permanent eyeliner) may be associated with extensive meibomian gland dropout, leading to tear film instability from lipid layer abnormalities."17 http://www.optometricmanagement.com/...ticleID=104929

Since having permanent liner, my eyes have had serious problems causing me much discomfort with EXTREMELY dry eyes and MGD now. My eyes were dry before, but are 500 times worse now. I feel like I want to stay home and in bed with my eyes closed all the time. Nothing the doctors have recommended has helped much. I've tried anitbiotics, steroid drops, Ice packs (that helps temporarily), heat packs, lid scrubs. My procedure was done in August, and it is almost December now. I have some days when they are dry and annoying, and other days when I need to put the best eye drops I can find on the market in my eyes every 15-30 minutes. It is horrible. DON'T RISK YOUR EYES! They are much too valuable to take any kind of risk with them. i wish I had known more about the procedure and potential risks to my eye health. I would never have had liner applied. Even though our Meibomian glands aren't right there in the lash line, they are close by and my Opthamologist says hot needles in your lids there can DEFINITELY cause damage, even though i am his first patient to have had this happen from permanent liner.
