  • Sudden problems with eyes

    Hi

I found this forum in search of a solution to my eye problems. I have searched endlessly on google to find a solution. now i'm trying in here hoping someone has experienced something similar and found a solution or diagnosis.
I have had problems with my eyes for 5 months now.
It started in August, where over a week I developed dry and irritated eyes.

I suspect a few things that might have triggered it:
    1. I was operated on for chronic sinusitis in January 2019. My sinuses are still not too good.
    2. I sailed a lot in the summer, where my eyes were exposed to lots of wind and sun.
    3. I started diving in the summer.
    4. I've been training a lot of fitness, where I've been sweating a lot.

    Symptoms I´ve had are:
    - Dry eye (they are not dry all the time. Worst in the evening).
    - Chronic rednes end irritation in my right eye between the nose and the iris.
    - One time when I blew my nose yellow puss came out in the corner by the nose.
    - Recently I observed foamy tears in the outer corner of both eyes.
    - I don’t have any sleepcrust in my Eyes in the morning which I ises to have a lot of.
I´ve been to my own doctor, several ophthalmologists and a Ear/Nose and Throat doctor. No one can give an answer to what it is.

I have been given antibiotics twice and several kinds of eye drops. Nothing has helped.

Anyone have any idea what could be wrong?

I had 2 of your problems, redness and irritation. I also had tearing. I did not have yellow puss which sounds like an infection. I also saw several doctors who could not help me. I ended up going to a dry eye specialist/corneal doctor who diagnosed me with a pinquecula and also a loose or wrinkled conjunctiva. He performed a procedure called a conjunctivoplasty with amniotic membrane. He cut out the damaged conjunctiva and use amniotic membrane to help it heal without scarring. It solved both the redness and burning. I also had a blocked tear duct which was causing tearing and irritation. An oculoplastic surgeon was able to open up the tear duct by placing a stent/plastic tube in my tear duct for 3 months.
    Good luck in finding help.

No my eyes were not yellow. My pinguecula was a clear raised bubble in the conjunctiva.

Nick1989 If you had pinguecula any eye doctor would have picked that up so you obviously don’t have that. Nobody is a doctor here and even if they were they wouldn’t be able to give you a proper diagnosis over the internet based on your vague symptoms.

So you should go see another eye doctor and get proper examinations done including blood tests.

Nick, I agree with Alix. You need to find a doctor that can give you answers. Your eye is very inflamed in the first photo. Hopefully someone can help you get the inflammation under control. Also if you have yellow pus, that sounds like an infection.
            Good luck.

Did or do you have any other problems than the wrinkled conjunctiva. MGD, blepharitis? etc.

                Hi Nick
Yes I do have MGD. I use Sterilid and Avenova to keep my lids clean. Lid hygiene and the amniotic membrane have been the most helpful. Finding the right doctor who is able to make the right diagnosis was key to helping me. I think dry eye disease is so complicated that you need a true expert that cares enough to help you.

Thank you for your answer. By any chance are you a contact lens wearer? If yes. Did you get back to using your lenses?

No I do not wear contact lenses. I also had a small in office procedure a few months ago when I had some minor irritation on my right eye. My doctor noticed that my puncta was turned in a certain way where it was touching my ocular surface. She trimmed the puncta and there is no more irritation.
