Link will not post (or I'm doing something wrong). Just go to Amazon and put this in the search box:

        Carlson Labs NAC N-Acetyl
        Cysteine, 500mg, 60 Capsules

I've been taking 150mg NAC a day since June 2012. I remember the first day I took it and the effect was very noticeable that day - my tear film felt very greasy. It didn't feel normal but it was far better than eyes being gritty. Over time eyes went back to the gritty sensation. Not sure what the NAC is doing now that I've been taking it for quite a while. I guess I would find out if I stopped taking it. I did take 300mg of it for a month or two in that time but went back to 150mg as I found I was getting more acne breakouts. Wonder what would happen if I started taking 500mg to 600mg a day.....The one I use is 600mg NAC on hellenia.co.uk (I cut the tablet into 4 to get the 150mg pieces).

I bought it but am still skeptical.. I'll give it three months unless I start to feel worse. Rppnj, can u give us an update? Is the blepharitis still gone?
Positive results with NAC are continuing. I had a half-day of discomfort but I only had about 5 hrs. sleep fhe night before, which always affects my eyes. After taking a nap my eyes returned to normal. So far I believe I've had 5 1/2 good days out of six. I'm staying with two 500mg capsules per day; one morning, one late afternoon. I have had no side effects other than an increase in energy. I'm praying that this continues but it's too early to tell long term.

You can get better deals here: iherb.com just chose 'supplements' and do a search for N-Acetyl-Cysteine.

Rppnj, thanks for the reply. I am also trying NAC, started yesterday... My eyes actually felt worse but maybe they were just going to flare anyway. I am also battling blepharitis and have been for almost two years. I have had remission a but ever since January, it has kept coming back. I am also using Restasis, serum, doxy and other eye supplements. Keep us posted whether it has kept the blepharitis down. Do u notice more oils coming out of the glands now? I am interested how u know this is what is working...

                    Hi Faith1989,
I've had Blepharitis for more than 4 years now and have tried every treatment regime available (all via my Opthalmologist). Nothing has helped, however, as soon as I started on the NAC, my Blepharitis symtoms started to improve and my eyes have been normal more days than they have been abnormal. As I'm typing this, I have no symptoms at all. If I wasn't on the DEZ site right now, I wouldn't even be aware of my eyes. I just hope that this lasts 'long term'. Check out my other posts starting last year. I've written a pretty comprehensive account of my struggles with Blepharitis. It's been a nightmare. BTW...I've also taking Hyaluronic Acid (HA). This is also a very important supplement for eye health, however, it wasn't until I started taking the
NAC that my symptpms improved so dramatically. Connie Chung once did a story on the benefits of 'HA'. it's on Youtube. Just Search Connie Chung Hyaluronic Acid Japan and that shoud take you there. I would place the link here but I do not know how to do that.
                    Kindest regards,
                    rppnj

Hi Faith1989, Don't concern yourself...it's no trouble at all. The wonderful people on this site were always willing to help me out and I'm just returning the favor with you. The redness is gone and the 'whites' of my eyes are actually white now. Regarding drops...when I get that gritty feeling, I use a "flushing" technique that works well. I lie down and extend my head back and my wife holds out each lid and and dumps a whole vile of Refresh Plus 'no preservative' drops well up into the upper lid in each eye. I keep my head back and and roll my eyes around to really flush them out and this takes away that gritty feeling. However, I try NOT to use the drops or 'mess with' my eyes unless I absolutely have to. I try as much as possible to let them stabilize on their own. My eyes are still good as I write this.
                        Kindest regards,
                        rppnj

I'm using Azasite and Lasticaft which have helped some and I'm going to try NAC. In the study that article cited they were using NAC plus another drug and it may well be the other drug that caused the conjunctivitis. I haven't found any adverse effects reported with NAC anywhere else except if you take too much it can cause nausea (one guy took 3 600mg tablets at once and got sick--no wonder!) Let's all keep each other posted on whether it helps!

This article provides theoretical postulations to how NAC (any anti-oxidant for that matter) could help unclog your meimobian glands. This article discusses about sebaceous glands and lipid peroxidation, but it applies to any oil gland I would think.

I tried NAC before and after 3 days I felt really worse and I felt constant stinging and grittiness feeling in both my eyes. I quit it then. I will give it a try again.

Hi Faith, Sorry the NAC did not work out for you. My eyes are still good so I willl continue to take it, although, I do find that the usual irritants still affect my eyes short term; direct sunlight, wind, fumes/aromas (i.e. items like Purel Hand Sanitizer). However, once the irritant is no longer there, my eyes return to normal within about 20 minutes to a half hour). Typically, when I was exposed to an irritant that affected my eyes, my eyes would be 'bad' for the rest of the day. Now, since taking NAC, my eyes return to normal after the irritant is removed. This is the best my eyes have been in 4 years, however, I'm not looking forward tmy worsto the green tree pollen season coming up. That's one of my worst allergens.
                                Kindest regards,
