  • Batwell's Story - Part 1.

About 6 to 8 years ago (in my mid-fifties) I awoke one morning with a very painful foriegn body sensation in my right eye. I rinsed it out and rinsed it out and rinsed it out but it only felt worse. After a few hours though it subsided and I thought, WOW, I hope I never experience that again! Well, of course, unfortunately I did. And again, and again. After a few trips to urgent care and my optometrist, I was referred to the "Corneal Specialist."

He told me I had a corneal abrasion and suggested Genteal Gel. There was never any mention of Recurrent Corneal Erosion or ABMD or any other issue, just the abrasion. Well, the Genteal helped but not all that much and he was all hot and ready to perform a debridement. This scared the hell out of me so I started doing as much research online as I could.

Ultimately I found a reference to hypoxia being a possible cause and I devised an experiment of my own. I forced myself to wake up in the middle of the night and give my eye some air. Then I would re-goop with Genteal and go back to bed.

Yeah, and horray, it worked!!! I kept up that routine for about 7 months and then moved to just using the Genteal once at bedtime. I have maintained this routine (Genteal in the right eye at bedtime) ever since and have been erosion free untill two weeks ago. Then, ...

    Stay tuned for Part 2.
