      • Chronic Dry Eyes/Exessive Mucous discharge

        Hi,
I found this Forum while googling 'Dry Eyes'. I've had dry eyes since 1992. So that means i've had it for 18 yrs. That's almost two decades. I'm 36yrs old now. It started out with my eyes feeling like i had particles of sand in them, so i started pulling out the mucous that constantly triggered the gritty sandy feeling. 18 yrs later and my eyes are only a more horrible version of what started almost 2 decades ago. People always tell me i look tired, even when i'm not tired at all. I have dark circles and some wrinkles under my eyes now because of the constant mucous phishing. I even started wearing glasses (no lens just plain slightly tinted glass) to camoflauge the dry look of my eyes. Most of the time I have the heavy, burning, gritty, menthol sensation all at once. I have to pull the stringy whiteish mucous out of the inside of my lower and upper eyelids almost everyday, and sometimes allllll day long. At times in the past I have even had to scrape the mucous off from my upper eyelids. It would stick to it like some hard glue. As i scraped it off, more would replace what i scraped off, instantly. This would go on for hours. If this isn't extremely depressing I don't know what is, but what can you do. Even as I speak, i have mucous all in my right eye, begging me to take it out. But i am not at home so i can't do that in front of people. I wouldn't wish this on anyone. I've been to numerous Opthamologists and I have tried numerous eye drops. You name it i've tried it. I have even had the plug thingys put in my eyes to keep the moisture in. And i have had a sharp equipment stuck through the inner corner of my eyes to make sure my eyes are draining properly. That was an interesting procedure. But those procedures didn't help either. I have even tried to not pull the mucous out and just let it sting without me trying to touch my eyes. but the more i tried mot to touch them, the more the mucous reassured me that it isnt goiong anywhere. So my eyes are literaly getting worse every month and the mucous discharge is getting more and more every month as well. This condition has immensely changed my way of living. My symptoms weren't so bad when it started in 1992, but as the years went by, my eyes got worse and worse, and are still getting worse each month. All I can do now is pray that one day some doctor will give me that heavenly cure. But until then i guess all of us that have it might as well conclude that we have eye cancer. I don't know how else to look at it. Basicaly, you don't know how precious your eyes are until you have Chronic Dry eyes.

Sorry for the long post but i had to get it all out.

          • Dry eyes sufferer

Hi, I found this site when I was trying to google for hyabak to see if They sell a version of it in the US. Hyabak are the drops I use instead of Systane, which I used to use. I have only been seriously suffering from dry eyes for some years now. My vision is often blurry and my eyes often feel ... Cutting for some reason comes to mind.
I hope to learn more about this condition through other members, share whatever information I can to help others and also communicate with others who understand what it is like to have this problem and how constraining and frustrating it can be at times.

            • Eye watering after duct plug removed

I have purchased products from you for several years but have never entered the dry eye talk forum. I love your products and use the goggles every night. I decided to try tear duct plugs after a friend raved about them. One kept popping out and the other eye watered constantly. I finally had it removed and that was about six months ago. The eye is still watering constantly and the tears just drip down my face. Can this be stopped???

new member, same symptons as most every one else so far, night gel has been helpfull and just before I sleep I put a drop of preservative free eye drops in my eye seams to help. It's a contant battle, I use serum drops and restasis, they can put a mam on the moon surely there is a smart doc that can find a cureable drop?

                      • Stella W: Welcome! Rebecca has asked us to PM you if we have UK experience that might help.

My daughter age 10 was misdiagnosed with Thygeson's Superficial Punctate Keratopathy for one year in the 'care of' 2 consultants including the county 'corneal specialist'.

Now we know these surface signs were caused by lack of tear film, caused by undiagnosed meibomian gland dysfunction. TSPK does not present with peripheral corneal vascularisation, if you have this. Also there is a different spread and location of dot lesions. TSPK involves separation of sub-layers of corneal epithelium.

TSPK is described best in Medscape http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/1197335-overview. Just register to use Medscape.

My point is: have you got a correct diagnosis? We had a long journey to find a UK ophthalmologist who knew anything about the various causes of dry eye. PM if you want to chat.

I had started counseling (this condition did help promote the need for counseling!!) and just happened to have a counselor with dry eye who recommended this site heartily.

I found your site looking for a specialist in Pittsburgh for dry eye and your site popped up. I was very interested in finding out as much as I can about dry eye, a I have had it for over 15 years. I have been to at least 5 different doctors and have had many treatments.

I was looking around on Google for information and I saw this site pop up. I figured there must be a lot of people with this problem if a whole website exists. There are more than I ever suspected!
