I am 36 and have been dealing with dry eyes among other problems since I was about 24. I caught a virus in my right eye that scarred my cornea and in 1997 I had a cornea transplant but never really gained the vision since then and have had about 7 surgeries throughout the years to try and obtain the vision and releive the dry eyes. I found this site due to the last visit I had last week with my eye dr. for a regular checkup and he mentioned the Boston Sight center and the Sclera lens. I was looking for more information before I decide delving into another option and wanted more information.
The site has been so helpful for me and so informative, I guess I just never found it before because I have just been so discouraged with all the different treatments I have been through in all these years with either partial or no success on gaining my vision back clearly.

anyone that has been to the Boston Sight center for the sclera lens that can give me any feedback would be so greatly appreciated.

I am on restasis, lubricant at night, tears during the day and I also use a serum four times a day and am tired of all this and still not getting clear visoin at times,
I see one of the best corneal specialist in the Northeast so I know it is not my dr and I respect him that he does mention other dr.s for me to see in case someone else knows something he does not but I have not met one yet and he is the only one that has given me at least some relief.

any feedback from others would be so greatly appreciated.

I'm new here and glad I've found you!

I found your website when I was looking for hope and help for dry eyes.
My name is Donna and I live in Georgia. I've suffered with dry eyes for approximately 3 yrs. My husband and I own an Optical Shop and my brother-in-laws are both eye doctors.

I have found your site to be very helpful and I do refer patients to you almost daily. I'm amazed at how many people have dry eyes.

In the Nov. issue of the Primary Care Optometry News there is a big article on dry eyes. In the article it says using an antibiotic eye drop like ciloxan is found to be beneficial. Just one drop per day. I've been doing that now for about a month. I believe it is helping. My eyes had been feeling sooooo awful.
I have bought quite a few of your products and when my eyes feel really bad I make sure I get my goggles out or my rice bag. I have also added a cool mist humidifier to my bedroom. All of these things have been helpful to me. I also use restasis and other lubricating eyedrops.

Thank you sooooo much for your website.

I found out about "dryeyeshop.com" through an article in the Wall Street Journal about a year ago when I was in my worst misery and desperate to find another doctor. I visited so that I could look for a doctor in my state. Imagine my amazement when the only doctor listed was actually in my city! He has been an amazing blessing. Although I am much improved, we are still "tweaking" my treatments. Basically, my diagnosis is "aqueous insufficiency" and "posterior blepharitis" (MGD).

All of this has been due to my being post menopausal. Through all of this information, it's encouraging to know that I'm not alone.

Hi I am a new member and new to this computer malarky so I'll be very surprised if this reaches cyberspace never mind The Dry Eye Zone. This is a great site for information and just realising that there are other sufferers out there has been a great comfort to me. I developed dry eye at aged about 30 but it was mild and then about 7 years ago, it got worse practically overnight. (I'm now aged 55). I have been using Lacrilube for the past 8 years but have now started using Systane at night-time so I hope this is suitable. Also using the home-made rice baggies, Minims on prescription and flaxseed oil. Right eye has been cauterised and left eye is getting done next year. Wonder if anything really helps but I suppose we would notice a BIG difference if we didn't have these remedies and it is really trial and error. Does anyone know if the rice baggy treatment can take a long time to start working and is it possible to have permanent blocked oil glands?

Welcome to the Dry Eye Zone, you have reached us.

Sorry to hear about your dry eye tribulations but you are certainly in the right place.

For what it's worth, you may want to try something other than Lacrilube of a night. It is a petroleum based problem and some people have reported that they are worse after using it than before. I always say it is like putting vaseline on the back of your hand and pouring water on top of it, the water simply runs off, the vaseline acts as a barrier, it is my opinion and a view shared by a number of others here that this is exactly what Lacrilube does in your eye.

You could try something like Clinitas Ultra 3 (now available in the UK without prescription) or Viscotears (available in a preservative free form) is a gel like substance, Genteal Gel (not widely available in the UK).

I now use Clinitas Ultra 3 every night as I used to suffer badly from Recurrent Corneal Erosions after a laser vision correction.

Personally, I think there are better products out there and are worth a try.

If you need pointing in the direction of any of these other products, I am happy to send you some links to the appropriate websites.

              Cheers

              Ian

Hi Prattstur Thank you for replying. I seem to be all over the place but the information on this site is second to none. I have only recently stopped lacrilube and have started using Clinitis Soothe during the day and Systane at night so hopefully there will be an improvement. A good site for us is www.DRY-EYES.co.uk but you may already know of it. It lists quite a range of eye products. I am also in the process of obtaining wraparound glasses for gardening etc. (maybe not in Scotland in November) but I'm sure they'll be useful for housework etc. Everyday is a challange!!

                  Hello

Wife found this site searching for a humidifer for my dry eye condition.
Been suffering for about 3 months.
Eyes were extremely red an so painful. It hurts real bad but I guess I don't have to tell you if you suffer from this condition.
Dr. has my eyes feeling so much better now. I use Restasis, Lotemax, Refresh Tears, Lacri Lube. Most of the redness has gone an eyes feel 100% better.
                  Go to the Doctor tomorrow.
I have had the plugs but they came out real quick. Dr. said maybe to small.
He hinted he might put bigger plugs in next visit.
I brought some of this on myself by using redness reliever (Clear Eyes, etc.).
Doctor is not sure this is all of my problem.
Auto immune was brought up. Diabetic (not) borderline. Sjorens??
I had a liver biospy last week. Haven't got the results yet.
I feel a whole lot better.
I hope the underlying cause was the medication I was taking for my high chol.
TRICOR. I was taken off this about 3 weeks ago an have felt better ever since.
Well thanks for the site an I hope to visit with good news an all of you get much needed relief from this painful condition.
                  Sincerely
                  William Collins

                    William,

We get a lot of comments here about how medication can cause dry eye. I don't know about TRICOR, specifically, but it might be good to look into its side effects. It will be nice when dry eye is acknowledged enough to be considered when pharma lists side effects. Glad to hear that you are feeling better, and I hope that your improvement continues.

                          Finding this site

I found this site, like may others, by Googling "dry eyes." It may have been linked with another site, but I just cannot remember. -- I have found it to be helpful thus far (to say the least). So many other sites on dry eyes (especially as related to Lasik) get me depressed because they just reinforce that I, retrospectively, made a poor decision. This site seems to keep me hopeful -- and that's good!

                            Hi Everyone

It's nice to be at a site where everyone seems to understand and know first hand the discomfort, pain, frustration, desperation, depression, and lonliness that accompanies dry eyes.

In response to my cry, my husband, from miles across, found this web site and emailed it to me. I'm in awe reading other member's postings.

I have so much to share and many questions to ask, but this will just be an introduction, a hello, and an "I'm happy to meet everyone" greeting.

                            Happy reading, and happy posting!!!

Found Site Surfing For Dry Eye Info

I found the site when I was searching for information on lasik dry eye. I recently had lasik Dec. 2008 and am extremely worried about the length of time it will take for my eyes to feel better. The optometrist tells me that they are still showing mild signs of dryness and to keep using eye drops. Eye pain and headaches seem to be constatn for me but are exacerbated by reading and computer use. Hopefully I'll get better. I'm also a member of lasermyeye.org but have'nt been given the ability to post in the forums yet.
