  • Hi Delilah---good to see you and thanks for checking in.

Yes, the Recession....waiting and waiting for the upturn.... I think it's going to be a long uphill climb, but we have to keep going!

Sorry Vegas didn't work out for you.

My eyes are still pretty stable. I slacked off my daily "eye routine" recently just to see if I could be more "lazy," but my eyes got worse. Now I've learned my lesson.

    Take care,

    Calli

      • Hysterectomy on the 12th Friends.

Hello friends it's been a long time, my crazy life has moved me to Las Vegas then back to Pocatello, my boyfriend of 1 and a half years is now living here as he had to move to Arizona with his parents to save up money to come back here after our horrible moving experience His mom is going to be taking care of me after my hysterectomy on the 12th of this month. I am terrified of the painI know I will be okay as I am one tough cookie just afraid thats all. I am currently living with my family again due to this awful economy but it's not so bad as it's just my Uncle and I. My eyes are still the same maybe even drier? Dry as bones, tons of mucus strings and I just use the Muro 128 and the preservative free eye drops from Wal*Greens. I hope all ya'll are doing good and I miss all of you. God bless and wish me luck. • Hi Delilah
All the best for your op I'm glad you have someone to look after you as you need to be very careful over those first few weeks. It is good to have everything at waist level so you don't have to bend! Don't lift a heavy hot water jug either!
Do take everything for your eyes as the air con in the hospital can dry your eyes. The anaesthetic seemed to make mine drier too. I put gel type drops in just before going into theatre and my eyes were good when I came to.

My optician will not do any eye tests for 3 months after a GA because of the dryness it causes. I managed to get a nurse to warm my rice baggy in the kitchen microwave when I couldn't get out of bed. Once I was mobile I did it myself!

Don't be nervous - and don't be afraid to ask for pain relief whatever the time! Take an ipod or similar for when you wake up in the night.

Good luck - you will be fine.

          • Hi

            What's a rice baggy?

Same as a 'wheat bag' that we use in UK? I heat mine in the microwave
and use it on my neck or shoulders when achey.

            • Hi Delilah- I'm sorry you're on a sort of "recession merry-go-round." My daughter lost her job and it was a good one, so it has touched our family.

I'm so sorry you're going to have a hysterectomy while your'e so young. I know you've know this for a long time. I hope the surgery goes well and you recover quickly. Best to you, Lucy

Im sorry to hear about your daughters job, damn everything seems to be falling apart! Now my boyfriends mother is leaving so I am unsure who's going to tend me after my surgery? I just might have to put it off? You will be in my prayers. God Bless Delilah

                    • Thank-you Friends!

Well my boyfriend got the flu really bad, not sure if it's the swine flu but took him to the ER with a 101 temp, they just gave him Vicodin and stomach calming medicine, helped him though? Now Im feeling fluish and if so I have to postpone my operation? Gosh I am getting fed up with everything. But I wanted to say Thank-you for all your support. Yeah my eyes are awful, I use so many eye drops it's crazy, my left eye is the worse? It's stuck together in the morning time because it's so dry. Im taking vitamins and I even really for real lol quit smoking

I was smoking a pack a day and I just somehow got sick of it and just quit cold turkey! Yes I am even shocked, the smell and taste disgust me and I have no urge or craving to smoke, I am so happy and fortunate it turned out for me that way, weird though but Im glad. My boyfriend is now smoke free to, sure saves money and saves a lung! I will keep all ya'll posted on how Im doing, let me know how all of you are doing. God Bless D

                      • No smoking--that's great news. That's how I quit too (many years ago). Just got sick of it. Weird tho', my mouth started this strange thing that every time I'd smoke, I would secrete all this extra saliva, I don't know why. And then I couldn't stand the thought of swallowing it, and spitting it out was gross, so I just quit.

What a pain to have to postpone the surgery...and I hope you don't get the swine flu.

The mucous strings. A forum member who joined recently Ringo, posted with a list of supplements and methods that helped with this. Have you read the posts? Might be worth looking into. Ringo's first post is here. I couldn't remember if you had tried the Acetylcysteine drops.

                        • Thanks Calli

Well I just got done reading Ringo's story and replied to him and printed out his remedy so I am off to try again something new. 6 years now I have suffered from these mucus strings and severe dry eye and I am just sick of it! I am going to get a 2nd opinion on having my surgery because I am fine now, I had bled for 37 day's when we moved to Las Vegas, maybe the stress and the heat? When I went to my gyno she didn't even check me and I am due for a pap smear? She didn't do another ultra sound and just agreed that we take my uterus out, my periods are good now and I don't have bad pains anymore so I've decided to not get the operation.

I am very thank-ful for Ringo's post and I welcome him to our Dry Eye Community Again Thank-you Calli for your support and I will keep you all updated on how everything goes with me, God Bless your friend Delilah

                          • Down in the dumps

                            Hi everyone,
I have had such a hectic week. Sick with flu and no real chance to rest with a super duper busy work schedule. I've been "hanging in there" with my eyes and everything else, but man I feel blue and sad tonight.

My eyes are hurting -- it's getting cold here finally and the cool air can sting my eyes. I'm creeping up on my 2-year LASIK anniversary -- early December, and just can't believe my life is like this.

I still do the thing where I recount the days and weeks leading up to LASIK, what I looked like, how I felt, right down to the specific details of the day. Why? why? Why?

I know, I'm supposed to move past this. But tonight I feel really sad and worn down by this, and would give anything in the world to have my eyes finally feel better for good.

Just a rant.....now to stop crying so my eyes don't feel worse! Thanks for being here everyone.

                              Hang in there!

                              • Hi lboogie
I know exactly how you feel but I must let you know that I have just passed my 5 year anniversary. The flu will be making you feel rotten and worn out and that doesn't help. You will get better and your eyes will feel better BUT you need to keep up with the rice baggies and using the cotton buds to keep the oil glands open. Try and get lots of rest with a warm rice baggy on your eyes and have a good hot steamy shower or bath!!

My eyes have gradually improved though it did help when I found a good Dr and had a course of Doxy and got glasses with side shields. I can now go without drops for long periods (but still need them at night and first thing in the morning). I can enjoy going out in the evening now but I warn everyone not to get Lasik surgery. I do believe it takes 5 years for the nerves to heal after Lasik done with a flap.

Don't let it get you down - things will gradually get better!!!

Janis - a rice baggy is like a wheat bag only I make little ones that contain rice using a stocking. Warm it up in the microwave and it holds the heat for longer - DO check that it is not too hot and I use a damp eye mask underneath. There is more info on this site or you might like to buy some from the Dry Eye shop.
                                Cheers all
