I recently got lower punctual plugs. One eye was great from the beginning with a Parasol plug. I had to swap the second plug for a cylinder one because my puncta in the left eye is facing the eye. It does not work as well and I am paranoid it will migrate somewhere.
I would rather have...

Need Advice for MGD and ATD
So I'm 9 months post-LASIK and have both my lowers plugged. For a month after getting them plugged, I was almost asymptomatic. The pain was reduced significantly. Now, my the pain in my right eye has come back, although not as severe as pre-plugs. My theory is that my tear production decreased after...

Cauterize top or bottom; it's decision time
Okay, so here's an update on my eye. I'm the idiot who had her right punctas cut open by a surgeon last year which gave me Instant Dry Eye on one side. I've tried Restasis twice now. First time stopped because lower lid swelled extremely and inside was blood-red. Waited several months then tried...

do plugs or cautery help morning dryness?
For those of you who got punctal plugs or cautery, did it help alleviate the first-thing-in-the-morning dryness?
One of the worst parts of my day is opening my bad eye first thing when I wake up (or in the middle of the night). One doctor told me that dryness during sleep wouldn't...

punctal plug versus cauterization
I have had my punctal plugs for 4 months. One has fallen out and the opthalmologist has pushed the other one back in before it popped out. He says they often work themselves out. If I have to get them put in every 4 months then I might as well look for a more permanent solution. Can anyone tell me about...

loss of sensation from cautery?
From those of you who have had punctal cautery, have you had any loss of sensation in that part of your eyelid? Like, from the scar tissue?
Also, is there anyone who has had the puncta stitched closed? Did you have any loss of sensation in that part of your eyelid?
Please...

rinsing with saline after cautery or plugs?
Okay, I just read on a website (sorry I forgot to get the link) that if you get both puncta cauterized, you need to periodically flush your eye out with saline to rinse away dust and allergens. Does that sounds right? I've never heard that mentioned before. Those of you who are upper & lower...

did your cautery cause a notch or shrunken area?
Those of you who have had cautery, did the cauterized area shrink down into a little crater? Did you lose any eyelid tissue at all?
Also, I've asked about this before with no response: has anyone here ever had partial cautery done? How did it go? Is there a chance that the cautery...

partial cautery
I had a three-snip punctoplasty to open up my "stenotic" puncta on one eye six weeks ago. I am going to wait several more months to ensure it's all the way healed, but so far we drastically overcorrected the situation and I now have a dry eye. I have some questions about cautery/partial...

Bilateral thermal punctal cautery
I have Sjogren's Syndrome (and Raynaud's Phenomenon). As a consequence I have severe dry eye and very little saliva. I teach ICT in secondary school so needed to do something desperately. My consultants have been great and yesterday, I had all four tear ducts cauterised. I went in as a day patient...

Hi everyone
As willwork4tears' post on having her punctum ducts cauterized helped me, I thought adding a brief bit about my experience might help another here.

Had Punctal Cautery
I thought I'd start a new thread since my Smart-Plug thread morphed into a cautery thread. Maybe this will make the topic more visible for those interested in cautery.
I had my surgery on Tuesday, September 28. My opth cauterized both lower puncta. I'll leave updates as things go along...

anyone tried permanent plugs aka "smart plugs"?
Hi everyone. (To those that "know" me - sorry for the several month hiatus. I started a new job and have been pretty much swamped since April.)
So I'm considering getting the "Smart Plugs." I've had the "permanent" silicone plugs before, but I couldn't...

Plugs vs. Cautery: A Story
I think my comparison of plugs and cautery could be helpful to those out there. I have severe post-LASIK dry eye and struggle daily (hourly!) as you probably do. If you're reading this, you probably know all the reasons why damming up those tears seemed necessary.
Early in my post-LASIK...
